Santiago is the largest island in the archipelago and home to the country's capital, Praia. By Sea: Port of Praia connects daily with passenger and cargo boats to Fogo and Maio.
Climate & Best Season
October to June (to avoid the rainy season of August and September, although the mountains turn beautifully green during that time). The average water temperature ranges from 23°C (73°F) in winter to 27°C (81°F) in late summer.

Batuque and Tabanka were born here, vibrant rhythms of traditional percussion. The Sucupira market in Praia is a whirlwind of colours and aromas where traditional gastronomy is expressed in all its strength.
