Mindelo and Laginha: where culture meets the Atlantic

At dusk, return to the Laginha waterfront. Terraces serve grogue, cachupa and fresh fish while the sun drops behind Monte Cara — a daily ritual that justifies staying seated another hour. At night, Mindelo wakes for music: mornas in intimate bars, live funaná, events at the Mindelo Cultural Centre.

The cultural calendar makes the difference. In February, Mindelo Carnival rivals Brazil in energy and creativity. In August, the Baía das Gatas Festival gathers thousands on the beach for moonlit concerts. Book accommodation early — the city fills, but the atmosphere delivers.
