Getting there is part of the adventure. The most common access leaves from Porto Novo (linked to Mindelo by ferry) by 4x4 on dirt roads, or by boat along the coast. There is no «resort beach» here: expect family guesthouses, grilled fish of the day and power that sometimes fails. Cape Verde at its rawest and most authentic.

Smaller coves dot the coast between Monte Trigo and Tarrafal de São Nicolau (not to be confused with the homonymous bay in Santiago). Many are only visible from the sea or demanding trails. Hire local guides: they know tides, currents and when artisanal fishing fills the rock pools.

What to bring? Plenty of water, mineral sunscreen (without chemicals that harm reefs), hat and hiking footwear. There is no ATM at the island's tip. Respect community pace: ask before photographing people and do not take «souvenirs» from nature — stones, coral or endemic plants should stay put.
