When is the best time to visit Cape Verde beaches?

Cape Verde is a nearly year-round sun destination. Still, the beach experience shifts with the season: trade winds, turtle nesting and a short rainy season shape each island differently.

From November to July, flat islands like Sal and Boa Vista offer excellent classic beach-holiday conditions. January to April is peak for kitesurfing and windsurfing, thanks to consistent winds on the east coast.

July to October marks Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) nesting season, especially on Boa Vista, Sal and Maio. It is one of the archipelago’s most magical experiences — always with certified guides.

August and September bring rain to Santiago and Santo Antão. The mountains turn lush green and bays like Tarrafal keep calm, warm waters ideal for families.

Bottom line: there is no bad season. Choose based on what you value — wind sports, turtles, hiking or simply a no-stress swim.
